When you install the ConDoc Tools extension, two toolbars are added to SketchUp: the ConDoc Drawings Toolbar and the ConDoc Express Tools Toolbar. Together, these toolbars give you all the tools you need to generate, manage, and clean up your drawings in SketchUp. This article breaks down what each toolbar does, how they work together, and where to find them in your workspace.
The toolbar is divided into two sides:
Left side: Tools that create scenes
Right side: Tools that manage or update those scenes
Understanding this layout makes it easy to know what to click and when.
The tools on the left side of the toolbar are used to create scenes in your SketchUp model. These scenes come fully configured—scene names, styles, shadows, section cuts, camera views—all controlled by the loaded .condoc drawing set.
Tools on the left:
Plan Generator – Creates top-down plan views with correct tags, styles, and section planes
Section Tool – Cuts through the model to generate true section views
Elevation Tool – Creates flat, orthographic side views of the model
Perspective Tool – Creates styled 3D views for presentation or documentation
All of these tools are powered by the drawing set you’ve loaded in the ConDoc Configurator. If you’re not seeing the scenes you expect, it’s usually because a different .condoc file is active.
The tools on the right side of the toolbar help you manage, update, and export drawing scenes after they’ve been created. These are essential for keeping your drawings accurate and ready for LayOut.
Tools on the right:
Update Drawing Camera – Updates the camera view for all scenes associated with a selected drawing. For example, a plan drawing might include four stacked scenes. This tool ensures that the camera position is consistent across all of them so they align properly in LayOut.
Delete ConDoc Drawings – Removes all scenes associated with the selected drawing. Instead of manually selecting and deleting each scene, this tool removes the entire drawing set in one step.
Scene Update and Save – After you've made tagging changes (like assigning or removing tags on geometry), this tool updates the scene visibility so your drawings reflect those changes. It also saves your model. When in doubt, this is a great button to click—especially if something looks off in LayOut.
ConDoc Drawing Export – Sends selected drawings to LayOut at a set scale. The scenes are added to the ConDoc Drawing Scrapbook, where you can drag and drop them onto a title block. This gives you control over layout and presentation without having to rebuild the drawing.
These tools help you troubleshoot, revise, and move your drawings into LayOut efficiently—whether you're updating a tag, adjusting a view, or exporting for final documentation.
The ConDoc Express Tools Toolbar gives you quick access to utility tools that help clean up your model, manage visibility, and work more efficiently. These tools don’t create drawing scenes—they support your workflow by giving you better control over TAGS, SECTION PLANES, and MODEL ORGANIZATION.
This toolbar is especially useful before and after generating drawings, or anytime your model starts to feel cluttered or unpredictable.
ConDoc System – Opens the ConDoc Heads-Up Display (HUD), which gives you a live view of your model’s organization based on LEVEL, ELEMENT, LOCATION, and CONDITION tags. It also includes smart tag state toggles that cycle through helpful visibility presets—like isolating one LEVEL at a time or switching between LOCATION tags (such as INTERIOR, EXTERIOR, SITE, and CONTEXT). This helps you navigate and manage complex models without digging into the SketchUp Tags dialog.
ConDoc Tags – Opens a dialog showing which ConDoc tags are assigned to the selected entity. You can click on a tag to assign it, and click again to remove it. This tool makes it easy to apply multiple tags to a single entity. Tag visibility is still managed through the SketchUp Tags dialog.
ELEMENT Tag Freeze – After activating the tool, click on an entity in your model to turn off visibility for all ELEMENT tags except the one assigned to the entity you clicked. This is a quick way to isolate ELEMENTS as you work, without manually toggling visibility.
ELEMENT Tag Isolate – The inverse of Freeze. Click on an entity to hide all tags except the ELEMENT tag assigned to it. This isolates a specific ELEMENT so you can focus on it without distraction.
Purge Unused Section Planes – Deletes any section planes in your model that aren’t attached to a scene. This helps keep your file clean and avoids confusion when switching between section views.
Isolate Active Section Plane – Turns on section plane visibility, then hides all inactive section planes. This makes it much easier to see which cut is active and clean up your model when working with multiple section views.
These tools are most helpful when you’re organizing your model, preparing to generate drawings, or cleaning things up after edits. For example:
Verifying model organization with the HUD
Troubleshooting tag visibility issues
Hiding clutter or isolating geometry while modeling
Cleaning up unused section planes before export
You can show or hide both toolbars from the View > Toolbars menu in SketchUp.
On a Windows machine, you can also right-click on any button in your SketchUp interface to open the full toolbar list.
